April 5, 2011

On April 5, 2011, the bidding will start for the YDC Restructure to be implemented on April 18, 2011. The Local consulted with the employer on April 4, 2001, and took the position the restructure should be thrown out, or the errors in the tours had to be fixed be before the bidding started. The information given to you already, is incorrect for some tours, the employer will be publishing the corrections today (sic). Please disregard the CD’s and information posted and see the new information available.

Numerous errors were found, distance, prohibited turns, U-turns on Bloor or Yonge, values, times, etc., etc.. Our observers are trying to get them all corrected prior to the bidding starting.

There is a considerable reduction in FT & PT MSC’s, and the employer was unclear what will happen to them and what they will be doing. The employer proposed making 13 FT and 13 PT into a weird relief force, who may or may not get Relief pay to act as Relief covering some assignments the employer chooses, and they were not sure how seniority would apply.

The Union took the position that the 13 FT and 13 PT did not own an assignment under clause 47.19 and this triggered clause 53.10. These employees and others were entitled to the benefits of Article 53, and the employer could not suspend their rights or the rights of other employees at the YDC, the Local or the MAPP.

The YDC, Don Mills, Toronto O and Toronto R are about to feel the first impacts of Postal Transformation / Modern Post in the Local. There are losses at Don Mills, Toronto O and Toronto R also. Maybe the savings from the YDC, Don Mills, Toronto O and Toronto R could be used to fund the cuts proposed in the contract by CPC, instead of giving it to the “Harper Government” or Moya’s pension.

In Solidarity
