February 23, 2011

On February 8 2011, Canada Post sent a Technological Change Notice [known as a 29.03(b) Notice] impacting the Scarborough Local.

Markham and Unionville will start receiving sequenced mail November 7, 2011. There will be a loss of approximately of 40 jobs in both Group 1 and Group 2, at Markham, Unionville and YDC as a result according to the notice. There was no information on Group 1 at the YDC, or the RSMC’s in the notice. The loss will be greater.

We are asking you today to take a collective break together at 8.00 AM to show the employer that you will fight to maintain what we have, and we will fight for our jobs.

The employer wants to eliminate many of our jobs, and at the same time weaken our rights to use seniority to get an assignment. With all the cuts coming, employees with little seniority should be worried about were they are working in a couple of years.

The trend is here, Scarborough D, Depot 11 recently, Don Mills, Toronto O, Toronto R, YDC shortly, Markham and Unionville are next. They are coming after our jobs, not just benefits and sick leave.

In Solidarity
