Brother Bob Irwin

It is with great sadness, that I must inform you of the passing early today of Brother Robert Irwin. Brother Irwin was a former Scarborough Local president in the 1980’s and early 1990’s.  Brother Irwin was very active in the Union and participated at the Local, Regional and National Levels of the Union.  Bob made a lot of friends over the years from coast to coast and was on the National Constitution Committee for several National Conventions.  He was successful in obtaining millions of dollars in damages for members in the closure of the two mail processing plants in Scarborough on Milner Ave and 280 Progress. Many employees and activists learned a lot from Brother Irwin, even if they did not always agree with him.

Brother Irwin spent his last years with the Corporation working the Retail Wickets at 280 Progress.  Brother Irwin only recently retired and did not get enough time to spend with his family, and much of that time was spent battling his illness.

Brother Irwin is survived by his spouse Dawn also a former Postal Worker, and his two adult children Amanda and Robert Jr.

On behalf of the Local Executive, our sincere sympathies go out to his family and friends at this time of sadness.

In Solidarity
