Members of the Scarborough Local heard about the brutal senseless attack last week on Madeline Monast who had both of her hands severed in a dispute with a neighbour. This tragic event has touched the family of former a CUPW member and a current CUPW member of the Scarborough Local.

Madeline’s sister, Dawn Irwin is a former employee and worked as a Postal Clerk in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Dawn’s husband is still a postal employee in the Scarborough Local.

There has been a trust fund set up for Madeline Monast by the Children’s Aid Foundation. You can make donations to “Madeline’s Hope” by phoning 416-923-0924 or through their website at: www.cafdn.org. I would suggest calling as the website did not appear to be updated when this bulletin was written.

The Scarborough Local Executive UNANIMOUSLY passed a motion to support this fund and to urge our members to also support this fund. We urge you to donate to this fund if you can.

In Solidarity
