GROUP 2 - ACTING FULL TIME ASSIGNMENTS

Articles 17.06,17.07 & 17.10

The employer and Union consulted on the application of the new provision in the collective agreement that allows part time letter carriers or MSC's to bid on part time absences of 5 days or more.  Additionally, the parties also discussed the current method in place for acting full time or acting SLC assignments pursuant to article 17.06.

The following is the procedure which the parties have agreed on:

Regarding Full time Letter Carriers

For those full time letter carriers who are interested in taking full time SLC assignments (pursuant to article 17.06(b)) you are required to submit a letter in writing to the employer requesting such an assignment.  This letter of request will be considered your bid.  These bids will remain on file until such time as you obtain an acting SLC assignment or advise the employer that you are no longer interested.

Regarding Part time Letter Carriers & MSC's

For those part time group 2 workers who are interested in obtaining acting full time assignments, you are required to submit a letter in writing to the employer requesting such an assignment.  This letter of request will be considered your bid.  These bids will remain on file until such time as you obtain an acting SLC assignment or advise the employer that you are no longer interested.

Seniority and classification will be the determining factors in how these assignments are filled.  Additionally, please be advised that you can only act within your own component.

Effective July 1, 2000 the employer will post a monthly information item notice in all components in the Scarborough Local, inviting all group 2 employees to submit their bids for acting FT and acting FT SLC assignments.  You are not restricted from submitting your bid in between these info book postings.  Your bid will be accepted anytime and you will be placed in the appropriate seniority order.

I suggest all members applying for such assignments retain a copy of their submitted bid.

If you have any questions please contact the local union office (416-412-1100).
