Y.D.C., March 04, 2004
On March 04 2004, there were meetings
with the drivers for next weeks sampling, starting March 08, 2004. At the same time the machines are
being assembled.
Below is a series of images from the YDC and a short
description.
Double Clicking on a Picture will make it go Full Screen!
In this picture, we see that CPC
is proceeding with the installation of the “Green Line” machine, which was
previously in Gateway’s BMF operation. The parts are being staged in areas where
they will be assembled.
The main line
of elevated rollers is being assembled, the parcels will move along this system
from the keying stations to the run-offs through out the building. Note the
forklift lift a section into place and the subsequent height can be gauged.
Here we see
were each of the run off from the main line will be connected. These square
boxes between the rollers and legs are diverters, which lift the parcel up
slightly and divert it to a run off.
Refurbished and
new equipment has started to arrive. These are the legs to hold up the main
line and the run-offs.
The bases for
the keying equipment has arrived, the shape of things to come. Life and work at
the YDC will change.
Close up of a
diverter from below, as it would be in the roller system. Note the rollers on
the floor in the background, which will connect to a run-off to the main line.
There is another picture below of the run-off rollers.
These two
run-offs are in the approximate final position, and they will be attached to the
two diverters in the picture. Imagine them at the same chest high elevation as
the main rollers.
All the
equipment will eventually be secured to the floor. Work will mostly be
preformed with minimal Group 1 staff and while Group 2 employees are performing
delivery duties and some weekend work.
HAMPERS
This shows the
actual reach into a “Hamper” to retrieve a letter or item from the bottom of the
hamper. Full flexation of the spine, shoulder and arm is required. Delivery
employees maybe required to do such a task when segregating SLB mail into the
hamper or retrieving items for delivery. Employees at SCLPP and BMF who are
required to unload this equipment maybe required to perform the same movements.
The same
motion, seen from the side view. CPC wants to place oversize parcels for
delivery in the “Hamper” on the delivery portion of a tour. This posture is
inappropriate for lifting heavy or uneven loads. This piece of equipment is
unsafe.
Bottom on the
newer version of the “Hamper” which has been reinforced with metal. This was
required because employees were moving this equipment with forklifts at SCLPP
and BMF.
The “Hamper”
top edge has been reinforced with a black metal frame, and has rings on the side
to secure it to the vehicle wall with straps.
