New Sorter to be Installed – Bulk Returns and Local Finals Moving

Installation of a new sorter on the West Parcel Dispatch Docks (WPDD) at the Gateway facility will begin on March 1, 2004.  This machine, known as a PAXIS sorter, will be used for the West Transportation Parcel Delivery Hub separations and keyer sequencing, supporting the Parcel Delivery Model later this year.

It will be necessary to relocate two work centres, Bulk Returns and Local Finals, to facilitate the installation of the sorter.   As you know, some space has been opened up in the Bulk Mail Facility (BMF) as a result of the removal of the Parcel Sorting Machines.  The two work centres will be relocated to this area, adjacent to the Packet Sorter.  Processing of the local finals will later be part of the Parcel Delivery Model implementation.

These moves will take place in stages.  The Bulk Returns work centre will be moved during the weekend of February 14 and 15 and will be ready to be utilized in the new location on the morning of February 16.  The local finals will move the following weekend, February 21 and 22, for a February 23 start.

Durham, Brampton and TSC (The Shopping Channel) sorts will remain on the WPDD temporarily.  These will be moved as space becomes available in the BMF due to removal of the former parcel sorting machine runouts.

Parcels from the Large Parcel sorter going to the York Delivery Centre (YDC) will be sorted to runouts at the WPDD.  Parcels from the Large Parcel Sorter destined for Local Finals will be sorted to Regional Sort runouts.
