Response to questions>>>
Rob MCPhail will distribute at National Level
1) When will the clerk use the RF Scanner to verify the load. A) Prior to
loading the vehicle or b) after the vehicle is loaded?
[MCPHAIL, Rob] The project team recommends scanning after the parcels are loaded
to the vehicle to maximize the integrity of the process.
2) Exactly how much time will it take for the clerk to send / upload (with the
RF Scanner) the information to Event Manager?
[MCPHAIL, Rob] After the completion of the scanning of a loaded vehicle (either
fully or partially loaded), the route must be "closed" on the scanner prior to
performing any other scanning function. The data is then uploaded to PDSL. This
should occur very quickly (a few seconds depending on local traffic, etc.) The
data is only sent to DIA/Event Manager when a manifest is printed. The route ID
and barcode data and any alerts from EM are then downloaded to the local
workstation. This last upload/download is set up as a batch process which runs
every 5 minutes. Therefore you will be able to download to a driver's PDT
between 0 and 5 minutes after a manifest is run. (Plan for at least 5 min. and
you will be ok.)
3) Will the clerk be the person responsible to download the information into the
PDT or is that the drivers responsibility?
[MCPHAIL, Rob] This is a local decision. I understand that the time to actually
download should be less than the current process since the data will reside on
the local workstation (as opposed to EM) at the start of the process.
4) How much time will it take for Event Manager to upload the alerts into the
PDT? ( seconds, minutes if so how long)
[MCPHAIL, Rob] See 3 above.
5) The label produced from the keying station will have a code on it to identify
the RPO that particular parcel can be carded to, where doe the driver find this
code to know what RPO to card to. ( Tour Set?, Manifest? Separate piece of
paper?)
[MCPHAIL, Rob] Each manifest will have all RPO codes and associated addresses
for parcels on the manifest. They will show at the bottom of the page.
6) In the Scan to Route overview (Page 9) #3 The Supervisor will be able to
“Delete a Route” should this not be re-worded to say “delete a manifest”> The
union was concerned that the Supervisor would be able to take a tour out of the
system.
[MCPHAIL, Rob] "Delete a route" does not mean "delete a manifest". It means
"Delete all records of anything that has been scanned to this route so I can
start over ". This is used by the PO4 Parcel Support when it is easier to start
over than it is to make corrections one at a time.
Thanking you in advance for any clarification you can give in this.
