Anne Marie Hampton:      Presentation given on Traumatic Mental Stress.

Hand outs were  provided. Highlights of the presentation                 included:  Traumatic Mental Stress Policy, Criteria for allowing mental stress claim to:  include objective event,  witnesses, documented information,  statements from other employees.

 

 Separate Team at WSIB designated to handle Traumatic           Mental Stress claims  which includes a Team of Nurses who conduct group conferencing with: Employee, Union, Psychologist, Employer Representative.

 

Stacy Mills:                      What is the  definition of a “threat”. 

 

Anne Mari Hampton:       Must be objectively traumatic. Diagnosis .eg. Depression.  

must  arise out of and in the course of employment , must show psychological illness.

                                                     

Stacy Mills:                      Concerns regarding sensitive IOD cases and employee         

                                          early return to work.

 

-         High rate of Supervisory change over

-         Change of Nurses

-         No confidentiality

Angie Devoe                      Procedure for  processing IOD Claims

                                          Claim entered in SAP by Supervisor. Reviewed by OHSE

                                          Specialist . Hard copy send to OHSE for final review and

                                          distribution. Originals sent to HRSDC for countersignature

                                          and forwarding to WSIB.

 

Craig McLachlan:             What is the time frame before WSIB abandons a claim?

 

Pina Licata:                         WSIB  assigns a  claim #  based on initial statement received

                                           If no Form 7 received within 14 days, a letter is sent out to

                                           to HRSDC.  Claims is abandoned after 28 days                               

                   if the Board does not receive required information.

 

Frank Del Vecchio:           There is still a high percentage of claims being delayed by

                                           Supervisor. Need more training completing claims in SAP.  

                                           SAIR information not completed when Union must sign

                                           Form.                                      

              

Angie Devoe:                       Will follow up on this to ensure documentation is accurate

                                            on SAIR before Union signs form.

 

         

Angie Devoe:                      Third Party Claims reviewed.

                                          What is a Third Party Claim?

                                          Third Party Claims include:  Dog Bites, Vehicle accident

                                          involving MSC’s , L/C falling on private property.

                                         

Employees must sign Election Form sent out by HRSDC if

they wish to proceed with Third Party Claim as claim is

held by HRSDC until they receive this document.

          

Pina Licata:                         Reporting of REO.

               Employer does not need to submit a Form 7 (REO) when  Employee has a subsequent layoff  within 3 months  of previous return to work date.  A letter from the Employer with

               pertinent information will suffice.

                       

 

Craig Mclachlan:                  IOD claims pending….. What help is in place to assist the employee when the claim is in a pending status?

 

Pina Licata:                         Referrals, Treatment Centre, Back Care Centre,

                                          Physiotherapy, Chiropractor.

Angie Devoe:                  Employees concerned that they cannot attend Physiotherapy      until WSIB assigns claim #.  This results in delay in        employees receiving early medical treatment. What can the Board do to expedite situation?

 

Pina Licata:                     Time lag in establishing claim #.  Usually 3 days from the

                                      day WSIB receives information regarding an injury. Employee should endeavour to seek immediate treatment. 

 

Frank Del Vecchio:           How are employees reimbursed for out of pocket expenses for          prescription?

            

Pina Licata:                        Employee must submit to the Board any receipts and  will be reimbursed based on approval. Physiotherapist  paid by WCB

                                         based on WSIB  pay schedule any  difference usually covered by OHIP.

 

Wayne Nash:                     Injured employees not paid by CPC  for production bonuses                                                      eg:        Householders, rest periods, Boot and Glove Allowance.

 

Angie Devoe:                      Form 7 is populated by SAP based on earnings to be paid bi -    weekly. Any inconsistencies in the production bonuses will be reviewed by CPC.

 

Union:                                Expressed concerns regarding Group 2 employees scheduled to

                                          work days, being offered modified duties on night shift.                                      

                                          RSMC on IOD incur financial hardship when they return to

                                          work on modified hours. They are responsible for paying

                                          Replacement  worker.

 

Craig McLachlan:              Union and Management should discuss ways to

Improve accommodation of employees on modified duties.                                                Union and Management ongoing dialogue to resolve

                                          RSMC pay while on IOD leave.

                                         

 

Next meeting will be last week in September.   Pina Licata to arrange date.
