LABOUR DAY PARADE
June 11, 2008 (Wednesday)
The theme of this year's 137th Labour Day Parade is "ORGANIZE TO UNIONIZE" and will be held on Monday, September 1st. 2008. On behalf of the Local Executive Committee, I would like to invite you and your families to make arrangements to come out and attend this annual event.
The parade as usual, will assemble on University Avenue, East Side of University Avenue, South from Queen Street to Richmond Street and will commence promptly at 10:00am.
I have enclosed for your information this year's parade line-up and you will note that C.U.P.W. (both the Scarborough and Toronto Locals) are in 6th position (23rd. Local Union to march in the parade) of the total 42 Local Unions participating. Along with the Union/Local line up, I also have attached a map where the Scarborough Local will meet at 9:45am.
The Local Organization Committee will prepare T-shirts, donuts and refreshments for those members and their families who participate in the parade. For the FREE admissions to the C.N.E. grounds, members and their families are required to wear a designated wrist band issued at the meeting spot on the day of the parade. Members must notify their intentions of attending the parade by calling Sister Ellen Sigouin at the Local office (416) 412-1100 ext. 233 no later than Friday August 12th 2008. It is important to notify Sister Ellen Sigouin so as the proper amount of wrist bands can be ordered to accommodate all requests.
Also the committee has rented a cargo style minivan and a large flatbed truck from Frankie’s Float Service to be used as a float in the parade. These vehicles may assist some members with walking breaks throughout the parade, BUT CANNOT be used to transport members throughout the parade route. Anyone interested to help decorate these vehicles please contact the Local Office.
