Dear Sisters and Brothers,

There are a lot of changes coming to CPC.  We have begun having station meetings in the local to update you all in person as to the changes that are coming, and how they will effect you personally.  So far we have had a meeting with Don Mills stn, a joint meeting with Ajax and Pickering stations, and a joint meeting with Unionville and Markham stations.  These weren't as well attended as they could have been, but there was good response from those that were there.

What puzzles me is the number of people that have come to me since that meeting and said "Is it really going to happen"  "Are these changes for real, or is it just another trial balloon on a new possible CPC initiative ?"

It got me to thinking about CPC.  And that old fable of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf".  CPC has a long history of saying one thing, and introducing a new project, only to abandon it later.  And this has duped our members into not trusting that when they see another new initiative that it can't be real, or can't last.

CPC is not "Crying Wolf", this is the real deal, this is coming, this is indeed already happening.  This will not be rolled back later on - there is too much invested $$$$$.

If you have been sitting on the fence waiting to see if this is really going to happen, then its time to jump off, onto the side of the union.

We are consulting on all we can at the Local level, and we are trying as best we can to get the message of what is going on to all members, but it is up to you too.  To stay informed, to stay involved, and to get active.  If your local plans a day of action, participate, the message gets to the CPC drones in Ottawa.  They need to see that we are united.

THE WORKERS, UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Solidarity,

Cathy Beth

2nd VP Scarborough Local

Canada Post nets profit for 15th year

Canada Post came out on top during the recession, posting a profit for the 15th year in a row.

The agency's CEO Moya Greene says the key to survival in the digital age is making changes to adapt to customers' needs. That means looking for opportunities, and expanding services beyond the regular mail.

"We have an electronic offer available for Canadians to use today - it's called epost. For example, behind the firewalls of Canadian banks, when you do Internet banking and you order your bill presented to you, then it's epost doing that," Greene told CTV Ottawa.

She spoke about Canada Post's success at a breakfast hosted by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning.

Canada Post raised stamp prices for a basic letter by three cents in January. It now costs 57 cents to mail a standard letter in Canada.

Canada Post employs 71,000 full- and part-time employees across the country.

Editorial Comments:  So we see the profit....  Hmmmm.......  So are we happy as workers to receive a CTI bonus ?  How about something that will help us long term ?  How about better medical / dental coverage ?  How about allowing us to keep our sick time ?  How about real Health and Safety improvements ?  How about guaranteeing our pensions ?  Just a few random thoughts.
