Canada Post to reopen facility in North Sydney to handle undeliverable mail

HALIFAX, Nov. 9 /CNW/ - Canada Post today announced the establishment of an Undeliverable Mail Office in its existing vacant facility in North Sydney that will create 10 new full-time permanent positions.

"We are very pleased that we were able to find a new vocation for our facility in North Sydney," said Ray Simard, Canada Post's Regional General Manager, Mail Operations, for Atlantic Canada. "By creating full-time permanent positions, Canada Post is demonstrating its commitment to long-term employment in Cape Breton."

Mail items that are undeliverable or that are found loose in the mail are sent to the Undeliverable Mail Office, where every effort is made to identify senders and consignees and to deliver these items to their rightful owners.

Early in 2002, the new North Sydney Undeliverable Mail Office will handle all undeliverable mail found in Canada Post's processing system outside of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Undeliverable mail found within the GTA will continue to be processed at the existing Undeliverable Mail Office in Toronto.

Positions in the North Sydney Undeliverable Mail Office will be offered to existing or former Canada Post employees in the area.
